Belle's Hot Chicken (Melbourne CBD)
Famous for their 'Big Wings', Belle's Hot Chicken has a typical cosy diner vibe, although again I've found issues with Melbournites' inability to enjoy any amount of music without the bass pumped up to 2000%.
We tried the Big Wings with crinkle cut chips. There's four in a pack, and boy, they were BIG. You also get to choose your spice level which ranges from:
- Chicken Salt
- Original
- Traveller
- Hot
- Really Hot
- Really F**kin Hot (asterixes taken from menu)
We chose "Really Hot" because I'm quite confident in our ability to handle our spice. My partner said "oh yeah, it's not too bad", but I was hiccuping a bit from the spice level. I still really enjoyed searing my taste buds with extreme amounts of capsaicin, but I wouldn't lie that the moment I saw a supersoft white piece of bread underneath the wings to catch all the excess spice and oils, alarm bells were going off in my head. Great adrenaline rush though.
I really enjoyed Belle's Hot Chicken, and I found it great value for the price. From what I'm hearing, Melbourne is pretty great for fried chicken (especially Nashville), but not that great for Korean fried chicken, and my experience seems to mirror this.
