Coffee Quest #14: Flovie Florist Cafe
Located just outside of the free tram zone, Flovie Florist Cafe is a beautiful retreat. From its particular design, it's very easy to tell that they're also a place that hosts weddings/bridal showers/amongst other venues. The name 'Flovie' apparently comes from blending 'Florist' and 'love' and 'life' and lets just say I'm going to leave that there.
The service was very nice! Also the person who took care of us was wearing a mask which is very much appreciated in these ongoing covid times. So far, only two cafes I've been to have people still wearing masks and they definitely leave a nicer, kinder impression on me.
The coffee they use is Zest Specialty Coffee and they're running the Blackbird blend. I actually quite enjoyed this one despite the regular dark chocolate/hazelnut tasting notes. I think the mouthfeel was nice, and I did taste a mild amount of citrus. Because they made a lot of latte art, the foam was frothed a bit too much (but obviously that's so it can hold the art better).
This is their Cubano Eggs Benny and I love it. The size is a smaller than the breakfasts I'm used to in New Zealand, but I'm not complaining since I think NZ brekkies are oversized anyway. The candied orange slices weren't too sweet (which is good). The ciabatta bread is average, but the orange cumin pulled pork was wonderful. The romanesco sauce on the side was nice to spread over the ciabatta as well and offered a lot of differing flavours throughout the dish, and I loved the way the poached eggs were done.
Take notes Higher Ground, this is how you change up an eggs benny and present a coherent taste. ðŸ˜
Overall, I very much enjoyed Flovie Florist Cafe. Would recommend. My only gripe is that they put the bass in their music too loud, so while the music volume itself is okay, it's a bit too much shaking for my taste.
