Coffee Quest #24: Roasting Warehouse

This particular Roasting Warehouse in North Melbourne felt very cold and loud. I know it probably doesn't feel like it in my photos, but the acoustics of that store really got to me. I could hear people talking from the other side, the knocking of coffee puck out of the portafilter really echoed, and the vibe felt...off.

Okay. This cup. This one's very unique. It's a bit of an 'oooh' at first, because it is EARTHY.

My partner made a face and said, "Beetroot?"

Imagine all the earthy things (in a nice way, of course) distilled down into a cup. That's Roasting Warehouse's regular espresso blend. And it's not bad! You'll get a nice dose of cardamon notes on your tongue (which reminded me a lot of Turkish coffee where they actually serve it with cardamon pods) and there's just so much earthiness to every sip.

I would not recommend Roasting Warehouse if you dislike stuff like liquorice or cinnamon.

Anyway, there's other Roasting Warehouse cafes, some are even open air near Queen Victoria Market. It really might just be a one time thing, but something about the general atmosphere of the cafe (not the workers, they were nice and helpful) felt uncomfortable. We didn't stay long.
