My favourite place in all of Melbourne: Mörk Chocolate
Sometimes you just fall in love.
I am also specifically targeting this store in North Melbourne not because Mörk has inconsistent quality or whatever, but because the other Mörk stores tend to be hole in the wall types or situated inside the QV Market where everything is hustle and bustle. And I will fully acknowledge that the surroundings of this store really spoke to me cause I'm a basic bitch.
Mörk calls themselves a chocolate lab (and I'm guessing that means they allow dogs) with a variety of chocolate brews. Here's a photo of the standard range that they sell, but there's a bit more variety inside their store.
My partner chose the 85% since she likes everything dark or black and I chose the 70%. It should also be noted that Mörk uses their own oat milk, which is a blend of oat and coconut milk and they make it very clear that it's a blend for allergy concerns. My partner said it's the best 'oat' milk she's ever had.
Anyway, I loved it. The 70% was very thick because of the addition of cacao liquer in their hot chocolate mix. Cacao liquor is a mix of cocoa solids and cocoa butter which makes the drink smooth with a satisfying texture. If you buy their hot chocolate mix, the instructions tell you to heat it up slowly in a small pot, but I'll tell you the secret to their process (which isn't so much a secret): the milk and hot chocolate is frothed via steam wand. It's as simple as that. Just the addition of air from the frothing process makes it a glorious hot chocolate and I just want to sit here and write on my laptop and drink hot chocolate for the rest of my life.
Also they gave us these free samples to try from the chocolate they're selling on the side.
The green one is a pistachio with yuzu and matcha chocolate covering. The dark one is a hazelut with dark chocolate and sea salt. Not bad.
BUT THIS CAKE IS GOOD.
A twice-baked flourless chocolate cake. Not too sweet, but decadent and lustful. The feeling of running my fork through that slice sent tingles down my spine. My partner told me this is the cake she wants for her birthday and I'm like "uh huh, and how do you want me to get it when we leave Melbourne".
Anyway, somebody message me the recipe. It's so good. Highly recommend, and because it's not too sweet, you can actually have it with your hot chocolate and it'll pair well.
My partner (the alcoholic) also bought this Dark Chocolate Martini which is a collab between Mörk and Loro. I don't drink, so my thoughts on it will be useless. But here's a picture.
I won't lie that I considered moving to Melbourne just for Mörk.
I don't even like hot chocolate.
HEY, SHIP TO NEW ZEALAND YOU COWARDS.
